 Best moment this week?

Lots of great moments this week. We are in Idaho and have been having a lovely time. Mom and Dad threw us a lovely baby shower in Boise and we have been enjoying a nice time at Donnelly. Hard to say what the best moment is!

How big is Bean?

Bean is BIG. The size of a) a head of cauliflower, b) a rutabaga, or c) a cantaloupe! Holy crappa! He is more than 13 inches long and weighs over 1.25 lbs.

Don’t know my weight gain this week, but my belly is HUGE, and I suspect I have gained quite a bit of weight.

Sleep?

Sleep has been fine!

 Best moment this week?

We got a baby heartbeat monitor. It’s pretty amazing. We found Bean’s heartbeat right away and can hear when he kicks.

Still no 🙂

Food cravings/aversions?

Hungry all the time.

Next appointment?

I have four doctors’ appointments coming up: I have my ophthalmology appointment tomorrow, my echocardiogram 2/14, a consultation with a cardiologist on 2/23 and our 28 week OB appointment is on 3/3.

24 week bump update

How far along?

24 weeks 🙂

How big is Bean?

Gosh, I cannot even believe how big our bean is getting. He’s either a) the size of an ear of corn or b) a cantaloupe! He weighs more than a pound and a quarter and is more than a foot long head-to-toe.

Total weight gain/loss?

Ok, so my weight has been VERY confusing to me. But here’s the scoop–from our doctor’s visit–I am actually close to net zero weight gain even though I have gain 14 pounds from my lowest weight since pregnancy. My weight when I got pregnant was 155ish pounds. My lowest weight after/during morning sickness was 142 pounds. I’m up to 156 pounds. My doctor said that I am doing fine, but I should continue to gain weight. She wants me to try average 1 pound week from here on out, at a minimum. She told me I am at the minimum weight gain she’d want for me and I should go have a milkshake. I was feeling like I had put on too much weight too fast, so it was a relief to hear I am doing ok.

Sleep?

I have been sleeping ok. A few times Beau has kicked me awake, and it’s not easy to fall back asleep after that.

 Best moment this week?

It’s really wonderful being able to see our babe. And this week, I think my most favorite thing was being able to not only see him, but see him in 3D. The ultrasound we had on Friday was a bonus ultrasound because the doctors needed to see one more part of his heart. The ultrasound tech found the parts of his heart she needed to see (ventricle arteries and aorta, all of which looked great) and then she said, “How about we try a 3D ultrasound?” UM, YES!!! She took two different photos, in the first, he one of his hands over his face. It made him look super frumpy. In the second, he moved a bit and we got a really nice picture.

Symptoms?

Several new things. For one, I had basically my first ever spontaneous bloody nose this morning. I felt what I thought was a clear runny nose and reached up and there was blood all over. At a point, it was gushing–dripping blood everywhere and running into my mouth and down my throat. It took about 10 minutes to get it stopped. The nose bleeds are just a normal part of pregnancy. The hormones cause lots of blood in the face and sinuses–stuffy, runny and bloody noses and headaches (been having some) are just part of the deal.

I also started having the fabled Braxton Hicks contractions. They don’t hurt, it just feels like I swallowed a soccer ball. My bump gets really hard for a few minutes. They are slightly uncomfortable but nothing crazy. Our doctor said that there is nothing to worry about, this is normal timing, and I will *definitely* know when I’m having real labor contractions (not Braxton Hicks, which are famously known as “false labor.”)

Been having TERRIBLE cramps in my toes and feet, mostly at night. I have been trying to drink more water.

Chad just reminded me that I am also having major pregnancy brain. Add to that clumsiness. I have been losing my train of thought mid-sentence, and dropping things like crazy. I started work today by knocking our entire several gallon iced tea dispenser all over our takeout pizza boxes. I have also been a bit of an emotional wreck.

Have been having some round ligament pain too. When I sneeze or stand up too fast I get muscle cramps in my low belly. The ligaments just get stretched tight trying to support my belly growth.

This sounds like a lot and I might be miserable, but I am REALLY enjoying these weeks of our pregnancy!

Stretch marks?

*FINGERS CROSSED* *KNOCK ON WOOD* not yet!

Food cravings/aversions?

Still just hungry, for anything!

Labor signs?

My Braxton Hicks have started, but they aren’t really labor signs.

Belly button in or out?

In, but looking suspiciously like that might not stay that way.

What I miss?

Chad says: “Clear thinking and emotional stability.”

What I’m looking forward to?

Our trip to Idaho in just over a week! Bean’s first time in Mom’s hometown 🙂

Milestones?

This is a big one: viability. Micro-preemies born after 24 weeks can live. This is crazy. Of course we want Bean-o to stay in there and keep cooking but that’s a pretty incredible milestone and cracy thought. Also Beau’s little brain has matured to the point that he can have conscious thought and is starting to develop memory. He has his eyelashes, eyebrows and hair! They are white, but there 🙂

Next appointment?

I have three upcoming doctors’ appointments. I have my echocardiogram on 2/23, I have an ophthalmology appointment and our 28 week OB appointment is on 3/3. After that, we start seeing the OB every other week (BECAUSE THAT’S THE THIRD TRIMESTER?!?!).

*Just a quick recap of our appointment. Based on the recommendations of the specialist, the doctors at Mount Nittany have decide to treat me throughout our pregnancy as though I had a definitive EDS diagnosis. Basically they want to make sure my heart is good (hence the echo) and that my eyes are fine (retinal detachment is a concern with EDS). They will also be conservative during labor and delivery to try to prevent bleeding issues and early labor issues that *might* occur more frequently with EDS patients. Most women with EDS have no problems delivering healthy babes, we just want to be a little extra cautious. That’s pretty much all that we discussed at our most recent appointment.*

Everybody wanted to get in on the photo this week.
23 week bump update

23 week bump update

Hello all! I can’t believe we are more than halfway through this pregnancy and going to meet Bean in less than 17 weeks! It’s been a busy last week for us. We have been doing a lot of work on the house (who knew there were sooooo many decisions??), we sold my car, and we bought a new bigger, easier-with-baby SUV. We both have been working a lot of hours but things have been going very well for us!

How far along?

23 weeks today!

How big is Bean?

Bean for sure weighs just over a pound now and is just over a foot long head-to-toe.  He is the size of a) a grapefruit (YUM) or b) a papaya. However big he is, he’s certainly making his presence known–a few people have asked me when the bebe is due. I’m planning still to say to someone who asks me: “I’m not pregnant.” But I think this joke will be funnier when I look VERY preggy.

Total weight gain/loss?

I was sick with a terrible cold this week so I didn’t have much of an appetite and I don’t think I gained any weight.

Sleep?

Sleep was tough this week, but I have been averaging a half a box of tissues a day with my terrible running nose, so it’s not baby related, but sickness related. I have been having some problem with sleeping on my left side, my hip area gets really numb and tingly, but just in one very specific spot.

 Best moment this week?

It was really fun buying the new (used) car! Well actually buying the new car was REALLY boring. Could they find any more ways to drag that process out? Yeesh. We did a lot of research and we think our new (used) 2016 Ford Edge will be great for transporting our Beau, our animal entourage, and all Beau’s gear.

IMG_1924 2.jpg

Also, in other best moments news, I am LOVING feeling Beau kick. He is wiggling around in there as I write. Some of his kicks are really big and I can see them from outside. Chad can feel several kicks a day too, which is pretty amazing. I’m so glad I can share that with him.

Symptoms?

Other than a big old belly, not really feeling any symptoms which is FANTASTIC. I am starting to have a little bit of the “linea nigra” or the darker line that shows up on preggy lady bellies. My line is from my belly button up right now and its pretty light.

Stretch marks?

Nope. Keeping the belly all jellied up!

Food cravings/aversions?

I think it has more to do with my cold, but I am craving fruits and veggies. And still dairy–cannot get enough.

Labor signs?

Nope, although for many women, Braxton Hicks start about 23 weeks.

Belly button in or out?

In and looking like it’ll be that way for a while.

What I miss?

Nose-breathing. But nothing pregnancy related.

What I’m looking forward to?

We have a doctor’s appointment and ultrasound on Friday! That will be fun 🙂 We also are getting a stethoscope because baby’s heartbeat is now audible through one! It’s coming on Tuesday and it’ll be fun to play with.

Milestones?

Bean’s nipples are forming this week! No kidding.

Next appointment?

FriYAY! Love going to the baby doctor because I look forward to the little chances to feel even closer to our small one.

week 22 bump update

week 22 bump update

How far along?

22 weeks, today!

How big is Bean?

Bean weighs over a pound and is almost a foot long from head to toe (like 8 inches from head to butt)! About the size of a coconut or spaghetti squash!?!??!?!

DSC_0006 2.jpg
Belly’s getting bigger and bigger every day!

Total weight gain/loss?

I weigh 152, which puts me at +8 pounds.

Sleep?

Still sleeping well, with the minor exception that sometimes I wake up from kicks. That doesn’t but me though because it’s so cool!

 Best moment this week?

We had our appointment at the high risk pregnancy doctor this week, and it was VERY reassuring. It was such a relief to hear from her that she doesn’t really recommend any interventions for my Ehlers-Danlos (which she was 99.9% certain I have). She told us that she has seen 10 women with EDS, and that all had perfectly healthy babies and perfectly normal labor and deliveries. She made several suggestions to our doctors about things to be aware of during our delivery, but doesn’t think we should have any issues. She also said that because of my loose joints and stretchy tendons I might even have an easier deliver *fingers crossed*.

My coworker, Jen, gave us a ton of baby clothes that her son, Kaison, has outgrown. The clothes we got are SO cute. It was really fun trying to imagine our little one wearing his new (TINY) outfits.

Symptoms?

Hungry! Foot and hands are starting to swell (but hopefully my feet aren’t growing). I should probably cut the salt a little bit. Unfortunately, I really like salt. Not much else in the symptom department… I am starting to feel pretty awesome!

Stretch marks?

Nada *fingers crossed*.

Food cravings/aversions?

GIVE ME ALL THE FOOD.

Labor signs?

Not yet *fingers crossed*.

Belly button in or out?

Still in but I actually read that only like 25% of women even have there belly buttons pop.

What I miss?

Nothing besides the usual: cured meats!

What I’m looking forward to?

This week is a pretty normal week. Looking forward to having a bit of a routine this week.

Milestones?

Chad and I can feel some kicks from the outside! Beau bean got to be heavier than a pound this week–that’s pretty heavy (but only half as heavy as the Amish butter roll we had at Thanksgiving). Bean’s grip, hearing and vision are all getting much stronger.

Next appointment?

We have the regular pregnancy doctor on Friday 2/3.
